Cave Win at Home to Cottingham II

North Cave had a five wicket win at home to Cottingham II in today’s York Senior League Division 4 Holderness match. Cave won the toss and put Cottingham in to bat. They struggled early on against some tight bowling from Mike Stellings (10 overs-7 maidens-6 runs-4 wickets) and Declan Pearson (7 overs-5 maidens-5 runs-0 wickets). Cottingham struggled to 20 for 4 before D. Weston (18) and Ross Parker (54) added 46 for the 5th wicket. Parker hit three sixes in his innings and with C. Pitcher (17), they put on 30 before Parker was bowled by Craig Hewson (2 for 17). John Buttle (2 for 29 from 10 overs) restricted Cottingham at the end of their innings as they reached 129 for 9 from 40 overs. In reply Matt Smith got Cave off to a good start, hitting several boundaries and with Ed Sheffield (2) they added 18 for the first wicket. Graeme Furlong (2 for 27) removed Sheffield and Tom Dukes, to leave Cave on 22 for 2. Jonathan Tomlinson (17) joined Smith and the pair put on 43 for the 3rd wicket. A. Legard (2 for 22) removed Smith and Mike Stellings (5) and Cave were reduced to 75 for 5, but then Charles Parkinson (44 not out) and Declan Pearson (14 not out) saw Cave to their victory target with 2 overs to spare. Parkinson hit 4 sixes and 3 fours in his crucial innings.

Cave Collapse to HICE Defeat

North Cave collapsed to defeat at home to HICE in today’s York Senior League Division 4 Holderness match. The match was moved to Cave’s ground with Brantingham Park hosting another event. Cave won the toss and elected to bat first. James Smith (1 for 22) had Damian Sharp (7) caught early before Craig Hewson (35) and Mike Stellings (18) added 44 for the 2nd wicket. Raj Roy (6 for 23) then came into the attack and bowled Hewson. Together with S. Johnson (3 for 17), they ripped through the Cave batting order as Cave slumped from 62 for 1 to 93 all out in 35 overs. In reply Mike Stellings (2 for 34) took two early HICE wickets, but then Kemp (43 not out) and Littlefair (40 not out) rode their luck at first and then saw HICE to their victory target in only 26 overs.

Cave Scrape Home Against Hessle

North Cave scraped home to victory in today’s York Senior League Division 4 Holderness match at home to Hessle 2nd XI. Cave won the toss and put Hessle in to bat. Tom Walkington (19) started brightly for Hessle but then Declan Pearson (3 for 32) and Mike Stellings (4 for 19) took wickets at regular intervals to have Hessle in trouble. Pearson took 3 wickets in four balls in one over. Only J. Connell (44) came to terms with the slow pitch and he was eventually the 9th wicket to fall. Young K. Praddem (11) stayed with him to help Hessle to 96 all out from 35.1 overs. John Buttle (3 for 18) took the final three wickets. In reply Cave lost Tom Dukes early and then Damian Sharp (10) and Mike Stellings (19) pushed Cave to 36. Paul Hellwig (3 for 18) dismissed the top three Cave batsmen to leave them 41 for 3. Charlie Cockin (19) hit a six and two fours before falling to Jason Hellwig (2 for 13). Charles Parkinson (17) also hit a six and two fours as Cave edged closer to their target. Tom Walikington (3 for 10), who started as keeper before relinquishing the gloves to bowl a tight spell at the end, took three wickets to have Cave 9 wickets down with three runs still required. John Backhouse (9 not out) held his nerve and hit a couple of boundaries at the death to see Cave home to a 1 wicket victory in a tense finale.

Cave Win Exciting Match at Beverley

North Cave came out on top of an exciting, closely fought, match at Beverley Town IV in today’s York Senior League Division 4 Holderness match. Beverley won the toss and batted first on a good pitch, in hot sunny conditions. J. Brocks (9) and K. Thompson (12) started brightly putting on a brisk 27, but then Pete Pearson (2 for 14) and Mike Stellings (2 for 32) hit back, removing the top four batsmen. When Declan Pearson (1 for 24) dismissed H. Hudson, Beverley were struggling on 36 for 5. Jack Barnett (30) and young Josh Hunter (25) batted well and steadied the innings with a partnership of 56. John Buttle (1 for 30) and Craig Hewson (2 for 34) kept things tight, as Ian Goforth (30 not out) and Liam Richardson (16 not out) saw out the final overs adding 54 runs, to see Beverley to 150 for 8 from their allotted 45 overs. In reply Cave lost Declan Pearson (6) early, but then Damian Sharp (22) and Mike Stellings (20) looked to have full control at 50 for 1. Cave then collapsed to 55 for 5 as Josh Hunter (4 for 11) ripped out the middle order with his in-swing bowling. Ed Sheffield (12) and Martin Sutcliffe (16) held the innings together adding 26. Craig Hewson (31 not out) came in and added some impetus and then Pete Pearson joined him and hit five boundaries, as the pair shared an unbeaten partnership of 48 and saw Cave home to a 3 wicket win with 6 overs to spare.
