Craig Hewson (2 for 32) took the wicket of D. Newlove in the second over, but then D. Bower (47) and J. Cave Second Best to Cherry Burton

Posted by Craig on June 3rd, 2017

North Cave batted out for a losing draw in today’s York Senior League Division 4 Holderness match, at home to Cherry Burton. A minutes silence was observed before the match to pay respects to Cherry Burton player Ashley Godber, who died this week. Cave won the toss and put Cherry Burton into bat on a tricky wicket. They lost opener Jack Law with only 7 on the board, but then R. Talbot (15) and P. Ellis (49) added 44. Ellis was belligerent, hitting four massive 6’s in his innings. Mike Stellings (3 for 23) kept the Cherry Burton innings in check, but M. Spencer (68 not out) held them together, as wickets fell at the other end. Jonathan Tomlinson (2 for 33) and Karl Youngman (3 for 12) dismissed the rest of the Cherry Burton lower order. They finished on 169 all out from 39 overs. In reply, Cave lost both openers for 6 runs and then Craig Hewson (9) and Mike Stellings (17) steadied the ship adding 23. Cave were never in the hunt to chase down the Cherry Burton total and P. Ellis took 5 for 13 from 10 overs to keep them behind the run rate. Declan Pearson (32 not out) batted through to the end and he was supported by Tom Dukes (16) and John Buttle (15 not out) as Cave batted out for a losing draw. They ended on 113 for 8 from 41 overs.
