Cave Take Full Points at Kirkella

Posted by Craig on August 20th, 2016

North Cave had a comfortable win away at Kirkella in today’s York Senior League Division 2 Holderness match. Kirkella decided to bat first, but got off to a terrible start as Mike Stellings had E. McNab trapped LBW from the first ball of the match. Kirkella rebuilt with H. Robson (41) and A. McConnell (18) adding 55 before Stellings (3 for 45) removed both to leave Kirkella 69 for 3. A partnership of 39 between R. Steel (19) and A. Warren (34) had Kirkella on top, but then they started losing wickets at regular intervals, as Will Vize (3 for 33) and John Buttle (2 for 35), together with a tight spell from James Windeatt (0 for 43 from 12 overs) dragged Cave back into the match. They restricted Kirkella to 189 for 9 from their 45 overs. In reply Cave also lost an early wicket with Mike Stellings (8) caught by R. Preston off the bowling of J. Dickinson (1 for 27). Charlie Cockin (55) and Yaniv Judah (33) scored 74 runs from the next 10 overs, despite a stoppage for rain, to put Cave in control. Judah was adjudged LBW off R. Preston (1 for 42) and then a quick fire 11 runs from Charles Parkinson had Cave on 104 for 3. Cave Captain James Windeatt joined Cockin at the Wicket and the pair took the attack to the bowlers adding 70 runs in 7 overs. Cockin hit 8 fours and 1 six in his 55 and Windeatt hit 56 not out including 8 fours and 2 sixes as they steered Cave to the brink of victory before Cockin was caught on the boundary. Cave reached their target of 193 for 4 in only 24.4 overs to win by 6 wickets.

Posted by Craig on August 6th, 2016

North Cave came out on top in today’s local derby at Welton & Brough in the York Senior League Division 2 Holderness. Welton won the toss and put Cave into bat. They made a steady start with Craig Hewson (9) and Charlie Cockin (55) putting on 20 for the first wicket. N. Thompson (1 for 28) and Rhys Duerden (2 for 32) took the wickets of Hewson, Elliot Norris (5) and James Windeatt (4) to leave Cave struggling on 39 for 3. Mike Stellings and Cockin fought back adding 81 for the fourth wicket. Danny Gittings (2 for 29) removed Cockin and then Rob Page (2), but Mark Woodall (24) and Stellings pushed the run rate to take Cave to 178 for 6 with a 50 run partnership. Stellings finished with a superb 87 not out as Cave reached 198 for 6 from their 45 overs. In reply Welton also started well with an opening stand of 39 between Tom Young (29) and Rhys Duerden (21). John Buttle (1 for 37 from 12 overs) and Mike Stellings (2 for 29 from 12 overs) then slowed the run rate to take control. The Welton batsmen all made starts, but Danny Gittings (12), Tom Harrison (14) and Andy Copley (10) were all caught off the bowling of James Windeatt (1 for 48) and Rob Page (4 for 31). Tony Gray (26) and D. Barkworth (22 not out) added 47, but Welton fell behind the run rate and Rob Page removed Gray and then his brother Ashley Page first ball to end Welton’s run chase. J. Hills (8) and Barkworth batted out the remaining overs to earn Welton a losing draw as they finished 164 for 8. Cave had a 26 point winning draw.
