Cave Well Beaten by Cottingham

North Cave were well beaten in today’s York Senior League Division 2 Holderness match at home to Cottingham by 6 wickets. Cottingham won the toss and put Cave into bat. This proved a good decision as Cave slumped to 26 for 3 with Rob Moy (2 for 12) and Danny Furlong (1 for 16) bowling tight opening spells. James Windeatt (60) took the attack to the Cottingham bowlers, but he had no support as Joe Routh (5 for 41) ripped out the Cave middle order. Dan Moss (2 for 23) took the last two wickets as Cave were bowled out for 121 in 36.4 overs. In reply Johannes Marais (26) and Byron Parker (20) put on 47 for the first wicket in quick time. Mike Stellings (1 for 35) removed Parker and John Buttle (2 for 29) took the wickets of Marais and James Brown (7), but Dan Moss (20 not out) and Danny Furlong (39) added 54. Cottingham reached their target with four wickets down in 29.4 overs.

Cave Finish Season with Win

North Cave finished their Howdenshire Evening League East Division Season with a win at home to North Ferriby this evening. Ferriby won the toss and batted first. They got off to a poor start with Simon Hill (1 for 8) and James Windeatt (4 for 16) removing the Ferriby top order. D. Hirst (10) and E. Greenfield (19) added useful runs in the middle with Jake Oakes scoring 16 late runs, but Matt Glew (2 for 3) and Rob Page (1 for 16) bowled out the tail. Ferriby were all out for 73 in 16.4 overs. In reply Jake Oakes (1 for 35) and Morgan Faulkner (2 for 17) had Cave 24 for 3, but Tom Young (17 not out) and James Windeatt (33 not out) steered Cave to a comfortable 7 wicket win in 13 overs. Cave have finished the season in second place, 2 points behind East Division Champions HICE.

Cave Lose Thriller to South Holderness

North Cave lost out to South Holderness in a thrilling match at home in today’s York Senior League Division 2 Holderness match. South Holderness won the toss and put North Cave in to bat. Stewart Towse had Craig Hewson (0) caught behind in the first over by Keeper Jamie Walkley, but then Charlie Cockin (52) and Yaniv Judah (42) added 97 for the second wicket. Karl Jeffs (4 for 56) had both Cockin and Judah stumped by Walkley and then had Mike Stellings (8) well caught by L. Duell. James Windeatt (36) and Rob Page (10) put on 36 to take Cave to 155 for 5. Richard Rossingdale (2 for 36) took the wickets of Windeatt and Charles Parkinson as Cave slipped to 163 for 7 before youngsters Elliot Norris (14 not out) and Will Tanton (12 not out) saw Cave to the end of their innings on 193 for 7. In reply Young Luke Ingram (20) and Richard Ingram (25) had an opening partnership of 47. Mike Stellings (2 for 27 from 12 overs) removed both, but then Richard Rossingdale (48) and L. Duell (74 not out) built a partnership of 107 to put South Holderness in control. 16 year old Will Tanton (2 for 42) and Will Vize ( 1 for 30) took three wickets and bowled some tight overs as Holderness stumbled towards their target. In the end South Holderness scrambled a single from the final ball of the match, with Cave Captain James Windeatt missing the stumps with a run out opportunity, to win the match by 5 wickets. It was a thrilling end to a close competitive match.

Tonight’s Howdenshire Evening League East Division Match was cancelled when Gilberdyke conceded the match as they were unable to raise a side. North Cave won by walkover.

Cave Defeated at Zingari

North Cave came out second best away at Hull Zingari II in today’s York Senior League Division 2 Holderness match. Cave won the toss and put Zingari in to bat. Cave got off to a great start with Mike Stellings (2 for 35) taking two wickets in the first over of the match. M. Gravill (25) and R. Burnham (62) started to rebuild their innings adding 52 for the third wicket. Burnham and M. Russell (75 not out) then shared a partnership of 91 to put Zingari in control. Cave took three quick wickets with a run out and then John Buttle (1 for 35) and A. J. Clarke (1 for 41) taking the wickets. M. Obridge (28) with Russell moved Zingari to 187, before Mark Woodall (3 for 13) took three late wickets. S. Powdrell was last man out, run out by Rob Page to leave Zingari on 211 all out. In reply, Cave made a steady start before Charlie Cockin (11) and Damian Sharp (0) were both bowled by J. Hyde (4 for 34). Craig Hewson (16) and Rob Page (0) also fell to Hyde and then R. Burnham (3 for 32) removed Charlie Parkinson (11), A. J. Clarke (1) and Mark Woodall (6) to leave Cave on 63 for 7. Mike Stellings (25) and 15 year old Elliot Norris (18) then batted together for 11 overs adding 28 before M. Gravill (3 for 7) took the last three Cave wickets as they were bowled out for 104 in 37 overs. Zingari ran out winners by 107 runs.
