Zingari Match Abandoned

Posted by Craig on June 25th, 2016

Today’s Hunters York Senior League Division 2 Holderness match at home to Hull Zingari II was abandoned at tea following a heavy thundery shower that left the Cave ground flooded. The match started in bright sunshine and Zingari won the toss and put Cave into bat on a slow pitch. Cave struggled and lost early wickets against the bowling of Jonathan Hyde (5 for 31) and Roger Burnham (2 for 19). Only Rob Page came to terms with the conditions and batted superbly to score 72. He was the only Cave batsman in double figures, but he was ably supported by Andrew Ferguson (4) and the pair added 53 runs to take Cave from 51 for 7 to 104 for 8. The rain arrived after 38.3 overs with Cave on 104 for 9 and the covers were put on. The decision was taken to take tea early, but then after a very heavy downpour the ground was flooded and the match was abandoned.
