Cave Cruise to Mortimer Cup Win

North Cave cruised to victory by 10 wickets in tonight’s Mortimer Cup 1st Round Match at home to North Duffield. Cave won the toss and put Duffield into bat. The Duffield innings never got going and they collapsed from the start as Matthew Bunn (3 for 7), Elliot Norris (2 for 15) and Callum Hellwig (4 for 11) ripped through their bating order. Only J. Gill (11) made double figures as Duffield were routed for 48 in 15.4 overs. In reply Alex Dale (28 not out) and Sam Fuller (20 not out) made short work of reaching their target in only 5.1 overs.

Clarke Stars in Beverley Draw

A. J. Clarke was the star for ten-man North Cave in their winning draw away to Beverley III in today’s Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League Division 2 Holderness match. Beverley won the toss and put Cave into bat on a good track. They made a slow start and lost Charlie Cockin early. Craig Hewson (47) and John Backhouse (17) added 44 and then A. J. Clarke (76) joined Hewson and they put on 90 for the 3rd wicket. Clarke hit 7 sixes in his innings and put Cave on top. Cave lost regular wickets as they pushed the score up to 253 all out in the final over. C. Fish took 4 for 45 for Beverley at the death. In reply R. Thompson (26) and K. Thompson (9) opened with a stand of 48 for the first wicket against the bowling of Will Vize (1 for 54) and Mike Stellings (2 for 27). A. J. Clarke came into the attack and took 4 for 37 to remove the Beverley top order and put Cave in control. John Buttle (2 for 22) had Beverley struggling at 158 for 9, but the final pair of C. Bough (27 not out) and L. Richardson (12 not out) held out to see Beverley to 205 for 9 at the close. Cave came away with a valuable 27 points.

Bunn Fifty Defeats Gilberdyke

Matthew Bunn scored a crucial half-century in tonight’s victory at home to Gilberdyke in the Triad Howdenshire Evening League East Division Match. Cave won the toss and batted first, but they struggled on a difficult pitch and J. Callis (2 for 26) and N. Creaser (2 for 35) followed by by R. Callis (3 for 28) had Cave in trouble at 30 for 5. Bunn (56) and Charlie Parkinson (13) staged a recovery adding 38 for the 6th wicket and then Bunn and Elliott Norris (5 not out) saw Cave through to 104 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs. In reply Gilberdyke also lost early wickets to Will Vize (1 for 22) and Ashley Page (3 for 20). D. Bodycombe (13) and Ryan Callis (23) moved Gilberdyke to 43 before Jack Storey (3 for 14) removed Bodycombe and J. Walduck. J. Callis (12) joined his brother and put on 22, but then Storey caught R. Callis off his own bowling and J. Callis was caught at long-on by Matthew Bunn off the bowling of Henry Watson (2 for 6). Gilberdyke were all out for 83, still 21 runs short of their target.

Cave Beaten by Welton

A weakened ten-man North Cave side were comfortably beaten by Welton & Brough in today’s Hunters York & District Senior Cricket League Division 2 Holderness match. Welton won the toss and put Cave into bat. Rhys Duerden (1 for 18) removed Will Vize (0) and Danny Gittings (2 for 20) took the wickets of Damian Sharp (5) and A. J. Clarke (0) as Cave slipped to 13 for 3. Mike Stellings (16) and James Windeatt (34) staged a recovery adding 47 before Ashley Page (5 for 27) removed both and the lower order as Cave could only reach 88 all out in 29.1 overs. In reply, Will Vize ( 1 for 18) and Mike Stellings (1 for 33) took early wickets, but Steve Scammels (40 not out) with Andy Copley (11 retired hurt) and Tom Young (11 not out) saw Welton to their victory target in 18.2 overs before the rain came.
