Cave Derby Called a Tie

Posted by Craig on April 28th, 2015

Tonight’s Howdenshire Evening League match away at South Cave was abandoned as both teams agreed to call it a tie when it became too dark to safely continue. North Cave won the toss and batted first. Their innings was based around a superb 132 not out from Jack Storey that included 11 sixes and 12 fours as he carried his bat for the whole innings. Charlie Cockin (26) shared an opening stand of 50 and Elliott Norris (2) put on 76 for the 4th wicket as North Cave massed 185 for 5 from their 20 overs. Will Harriss (2 for 27) and Phil Greene (2 for 25) took the wickets for South Cave. In reply South Cave got off to a poor start losing P. Mountfield in the first over to Karl Youngman and then Ashley Page took a second over hat trick to reduce South Cave to 4 for 4. Phil Greene then produced some powerful hitting in his 84 to put South Cave in the hunt and he added 112 with Will Harriss (46). At the end it became farcical as it got too dark for the fielders to see the ball and the two captains called a halt to proceedings. A fair result to a good match.
