Stellings 150 Seals Cave Victory Over Duffield

Posted by Craig on August 30th, 2014

Mike Stellings hit 153 not out to help North Cave to victory in today’s York Vale Division 1 match at home to North Duffield. Duffield won the toss and put Cave into bat on a damp track. Cave took the attack to the Duffield bowling from the start and Yaniv Judah (13) and Charlie Cockin put on 32 before Judah was bowled by Paul Johnson (1 for 80). Then Mike Stellings came to the wicket and he and Cockin built a superb partnership of 184 for the 2nd wicket. Cockin made 79 including 5 sixes and 4 fours, but the innings was dominated by Stellings with 153 not out (11 sixes and 11 fours). James Windeatt had a late cameo with 50 not out (5 sixes and 2 fours) at the end to complete Duffield’s misery. This included 31 off the final over from Johnson. Cave finished on a massive 308 for 2 from their 40 overs. In reply Duffield were never up with the run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. Paul Johnson (52) anchored the innings, but without support at the other end as James Windeatt (2 for 22), John Buttle (4 for 33) and Rob Page (2 for 25) dismissed 10 man Duffield for 119 to seal an 189 run victory.

Rain Wins Out at Kelfield

Posted by Craig on August 23rd, 2014

The rain eventually won the day in today’s York Vale Division 1 match away at Kelfiled. Kelfield won the toss and batted first. Cave took two early wickets with Mike Stellings (2 for 22) dismissing both openers. Craig Lawson (52) and C. Walker (37) rebuilt the Kelfield innings with a partnership of 64. M. Walker (21) and Neil Atkinson (28) added important runs as John Buttle (4 for 51) took wickets. Kelfield finished their 40 overs on 188 for 8. The Cave reply was interrupted by a lengthy stoppage for rain, which left the wicket damp. The teams decided to give it a go and S. Dunn (3 for 30) and M. Walker (3 for 25) had Cave in trouble at 71 for 6 with only Rob Page (29 not out) holding firm, before further rain left the wicket too wet to continue and the match was abandoned.

Cave Cruise to Home Win Against Fulfordgate

Posted by Craig on August 16th, 2014

In today’s York Vale Division 1 match, North Cave cruised to an eight wicket win at home to a weakened Fulfordgate side, without several regulars. Fulfordgate won the toss and batted first on a damp slow track, but their innings never got going against the Cave bowling attack. Only Alan Baldock (27) offered any resistance as Mike Stellings (12-6-15-4) and John Buttle (7.5-3-11-6) ripped through the Fulfordgate batting order. They could only muster 49 all out from 25.5 overs. In reply Charlie Cockin (13) and Yaniv Judah (26 not out) put on 32 for the first wicket and Cave reached their target of 50 for 2 in 9.4 overs.

Below Par Cave Slip to Defeat at Bishopthorpe

Posted by Craig on August 9th, 2014

North Cave slipped to defeat in today’s York Vale League Division 1 match at Bishopthorpe with a below par performance. Bishopthorpe won the toss and batted first. They lost R. Keller to the second ball of the innings, but then R. Ireland (18) and S. Clapham (25) added 51 for the second wicket. Tom Baxter (2 for 29) reduced Bishopthorpe to 52 for 3 before M. Dale (34) and M. Whitmore (22) struggled at first, but went on to a partnership of 57. Cave missing several chances to take their wickets. Ian Holmes (42) and M. Ford (24) hit late runs putting on 56 to take Bishopthorpe to 188 for 6. John Buttle taking 3 for 49. In reply Cave had a steady start, but then lost both openers in quick time to A. Seager. Rob Page (43) and John Backhouse (9) added 36, but Rory Watson (2 for 65) and I. Holmes (3 for 20) came back into the attack and reduced Cave to 98 for 6. Cave looked well short before Captain James Windeatt (51) hit back and put Cave in with a chance. Despite some late hitting from the lower order Cave ran out of wickets as Ian Holmes and Rory Watson finished the tail to see Bishopthorpe home by 19 runs.
