Cave Power to GM Cup Final

Posted by Craig on July 27th, 2014

North Cave powered to victory in today’s GM Cup Semi-Final at Kelfield. North Cave won the toss and batted first. Craig Hewson (15) and Charlie Cockin (98) put on 51 for the first wicket. Cockin was the mainstay of the Cave innings hitting a superb 98, including two 6’s and twelve 4’s, before falling agonisingly short of his century when well caught by keeper B. Atkinson off the bowling of M. Walker. Will Ferguson (23) and Simon Cooke (33 not out) hit late runs as Craig Lawson took 3 for 29 for Kelfield. Cave finished their 40 overs on 206 for 8. In reply Kelfield got off to a fast start with A. Charlton (12) and P. Smith (18) putting on 42. James Windeatt (3 for 25) and Rob Page (1 for 25) regained some control for Cave and John Buttle (4 for 34) took the wickets to always keep Kelfield behind the run rate. Neil Atkinson hit a quick 31, but when his wicket fell the remaining Kelfield batsmen fell to leave them 59 runs short on 147 all out.

Cave Beat League Rivals

Posted by Craig on July 26th, 2014

It was an exciting, tight match at Church Street today in the York Vale Division 1 match at home to title rivals Ovington. Ovington won the toss and batted first in hot conditions. They got off to a great start with openers T. Ashby (18) and C. Tune (43) putting on 59 for the first wicket in 12 overs. Then North Cave Captain James Windeatt put himself on to bowl and he removed both openers. Wickets then started to fall as Windeatt finished with figures of 12-2-30-6, as he ripped out the middle order of the Ovington batting. P. Kelly (17) and Craig Nicoll (16) the only men to post a score as John Buttle (2 for 58) and then Rob Page (2 for 11) restricted Ovington to 131 all out. In reply Cave lost Craig Hewson (11) early, but Charlie Cockin (34) held the innings together, as wickets fell at the other end, to R. Waites (3 for 30) and D. Brummitt (3 for 26). Ovington looked to be on course for victory before Simon Brett (28) hit four 4’s and two 6’s to take Cave to the edge of victory. James Windeatt (11 not out) saw Cave to a 3 wicket win.

Posted by Craig on July 12th, 2014

North Cave produced a good all around performance away at Stockton & Hopgrove in today’s HPH York Vale League Division 1 match. Stockton won the toss and batted first. Rich Kerrison (46) and D. Kerrison (27) got them off to a fast start and put on 50 for the first wicket. Steve Fraser (26) joined R. Kerrison at the wicket and they took the score to 75 for the second wicket.
