Captain Windeatt Hits Cave to Victory

North Cave’s James Windeatt played a Captains innings to help Cave to a home win in today’s York Vale League match against Bishopthorpe. Credit to both teams for a good match played on a very damp pitch. Bishopthorpe won the toss and put Cave into bat. Cave lost early wickets to good bowling from M. Riley (4 for 22), T. Eckart (2 for 31) and J. Blackburn (4 for 44) and were struggling at 46 for 5. Then Cave Captain James Windeatt came to the crease and he steered the Cave tail while hitting a superb 75 including seven 6’s and three 4’s. He was last man out as Cave made 146 all out. In reply the Bishopthorpe innings followed a similar story. B. Smith (11) and S. Watson (19) had an opening stand of 24 against some tight bowling from Yaniv Judah (1 for 23 from 12 overs) and Andrew Ferguson (1 for 18). M. Dale (14) and A. Seager (12) moved the score on, but Mike Stellings (3 for 43) and John Buttle (4 for 25) ripped out the middle order leaving Bishopthorpe 96 for 9. R. Watson (18 not out) and M. Riley (12) added 26 for the final wicket, but came up short as Bishopthorpe finished on 122 all out, 24 runs short.

Tonight’s Howdenshire Evening League Match at Goole Town was Abandoned just after lunch due to a waterlogged pitch after heavy rain.

Cave Collapse to Defeat in HPH Cup

A dramatic batting collapse saw North Cave slump to defeat in today’s HPH Cup 1st Round match at home to Ovington. In a match reduced to 24 overs per side on a damp pitch North Cave won the toss and put Ovington in to bat. After losing an early wicket C. Nicoll (16) and P. Kelly (37) added 29 for the 2nd wicket and then Kelly added 31 with B. Steele (12), before John Buttle (2 for 28) and Mike Stellings ( 4 for 28) ripped through the middle order. Ovington were restricted to 100 all out from 24 overs. in Reply Cave looked to be on course as Charlie Cockin (30) and Mark Woodall (14) had an opening stand of 48. Cave then collapsed losing 9 wickets for 20 runs. N. Metcalfe (3 for 20) and Barry Steele (4 for 9) destroyed a strong Cave line-up who could only muster 68 as they slumped to a 32 run defeat.

Easy Ferriby Win for Cave

North Cave had an easy win away at North Ferriby in tonight’s Triad Howdenshire Evening League East Division Match. Cave won the toss and put Ferriby into bat. This proved a good decision as Oliver Brett (4 for 14) and Karl Youngman (2 for 20) destroyed the Ferriby top order. Only M. Hudson (20 not out) offered any resistance as two run outs and two wickets for Matthew Bunn (2 for 3) ended Ferriby’s innings in the 16th over. They finished 44 all out. In Reply Charlie Cockin (13), Rhys Duerden (16 not out) and Jack Storey (16 not out) made light work of the total, reaching 50 for 1 in only 7.4 overs, for a 9 wicket win.

Battling Cave Beaten at Burn

North Cave lost a high scoring match away at Burn by 21 runs in today’s HPH York Vale League Match. Burn won the toss and batted first. The opening pair of Leigh Adamson (76) and Ed Clark (83) put on a superb stand of 153 to put Burn in complete control against a blunt Cave attack. It was only after these two were dismissed that Cave came back into the game with John Buttle (2 for 52) and Andrew Ferguson (2 for 44) gaining some control. Adam Prescott (18) added runs, but Oliver Brett (2 for 40) took two late wickets as Burn finished on 214 for 8. In reply John Backhouse (21) and Craig Hewson (22) added 36 for the first wicket and then Niv Judah (65) and Stand-in Captain Rob Page (41) put on 82 as Cave looked to be heading towards their target, but Adam Prescott ripped through the rest of the Cave batting line-up, depleted due to Hull City playing in the cup final at Wembley, finishing with 5 for 47. Cave all out for 193.
