Posted by Craig on April 26th, 2014

North Cave began their HPH York Vale Cricket League Division 1 campaign with a home win over Stockton & Hopgrove this afternoon. North Cave won the toss and put Stockton & Hopgrove into bat on a damp drying pitch. Giles Smith started in belligerent mood and he added 27 with Rich Kerrison (4) and 43 with R. Horsman (15) in an incredible innings of 92 out of the 116 Stockton scored while he was at the crease. He hit 8 sixes before being caught by the keeper off the bowling of John Buttle. Oliver Brett (3 for 17) took the first three Stockton wickets. Once Smith was dismissed wickets fell quickly with Stockton all out for 132 in 33.1 overs with John Buttle (3 for 44) and Mike Stellings (3 for 26) taking the wickets. In reply Charlie Cockin (53 not out) and Mike Stellings (55 not out) saw Cave to a comfortable victory by 9 wickets in an unbeaten stand of 104. John Backhouse (5) the only wicket to fall to K. Perera.
