Cave Win Cup Thriller

North Cave won a thrilling HPH Cup 1st Round match at Heminbrough by 1 wicket. Hemingbrough batted first, but soon found themselves in trouble as John Buttle (3 for 25) and James Windeatt (3 for 24) reduced them to 87 for 6. Chris Colbeck (2 for 23) and Karl Youngman (1 for 21) had them at 94 for 8, before G. Wilson (28) and L. Hallam (10 not out) help Hemingbrough to 125 for 9 from their 40 overs. Cave’s reply did not start much better as J. Shepherd (3 for 33) had them 22 for 3, but then Richard Moore and Rob Page (18) added 48 for the 4th wicket. Moore hit a match winning innings of 69 to get Cave to within 10 of victory, but then M. Pounder (4 for 17) caused the late mayhem with three late wickets leaving Cave needing 3 to win off the last over with the final pair at the crease. Veteran club chairman Graham Mathers and Karl Youngman saw them home with just two balls remaining.

Cave Ease into Semi-Final

North Cave had a comfortable win over North Ferriby in tonight’s Mortimer Cup 1st round tie. Cave won the toss and batted first. Jack Storey (40) and Mark Woodall (26) got them off to a flier adding 62 for the first wicket. Rhys Duerden then came to the crease and added 64 including 5 sixes as he and Rob Page (14 not out) put on 81 to take Cave to 153 for 4 off their 20 overs. For Ferriby J. Brown took 2 for 29. In reply the Ferriby innings never got started and only Richard Dennett (12) and S. Watkin (14) got into double figures as Oliver Brett (3 for 22) and John Buttle (3 for 19) ripped out the top order. Charlie Cockin (1 for 4) and Mark Woodall ( 2 for 1) cleaned up the tail to see Cave home by 91 runs.

Windeatt Inspires Nine-Wicket Win

North Cave eased to a comfortable nine-wicket win at Hemingbrough in todays York Vale League Division 1 match. Hemingbrough won the toss and batted first. Matthew Milburn opened with 52 for Hemingbrough and put on 64 for the second wicket with D. Sharpe (33). G. Wilson (45 not out) and T. Bodycombe (24 not out) hit an unbeaten 65 at the end to take Hemingbrough to 177 for 5 in their 40 overs. Cave bowlers Rob Page (2 for 37), Mike Stellings (1 for 32 in 11 overs) and John Buttle (0 for 37 in 10 overs) bowled economically to restrict Hemingbrough. In reply openers Mike Stellings (34) and John Backhouse (49 not out), who batted through to anchor the innings, put on 70 for the first wicket. Then James Windeatt joined Backhouse and they added 111 to take Cave to victory. Windeatt hit 83 not out, including 3 sixes and 13 fours, in a match winning innings.
