Cave Fall to Semi-Final defeat

North Cave fell to defeat in the HPH Cup Semi-Final in the second game in two days to be played at Burn. Burn won the toss and put Cave in to bat. Mike Stellings (50) again got Cave off to a good start adding 61 for the second wicket with Rob Page (26). James Ferguson (21) and Ioan Pearce (35) kept the run rate up and John Backhouse (23 not out) at the end got Cave to 200 all out.  Adam Prescott (3 for 33) and two wickets a piece for Jamie Bingle, A. Abbott and D. Bramley did the damage for Burn. In reply Ray Adamson (51) and Lee Adamson (50) got the innings going with a stand of 74. T. Rich (17) kept things going before Jamie Bingle (31 not out) and Adam Prescott (46 not out) took Burn to victory by 7 wickets with an unbroken 83 run partnership.

Stellings Ton Earns Cave Win at Burn

North Cave consolidated their position at the top of the HPH York Vale Division 1 with a win at Burn this afternoon. Burn won the toss and batted first. Lee Adamson (63) anchored the Burn innings and he was supported by A. Watson (39) as the pair added 75 for the third wicket. Ioan Pearce (1 for 45) and Mike Stellings (3 for 49) pegged back the Burn innings and kept the run rate under control. Ed Clark (38) added some quick late runs supported by Jamie Bingle (12). John Buttle finished with 4 for 45 as Burn ended their 40 overs on 192 for 9. In reply a superb innings from opener Mike Stellings, who completed a great all around performance with an unbeaten 115, was the backbone of North Cave’s run chase. His innings included 6 sixes and 10 fours. He put on 44 with Charlie Cockin (12) and 55 with Ioan Pearce (21) as Cave reached their target of 194 for 7 with 16 balls remaining. Adam Prescott (4 for 43) offered some resistance, but it was not enough to prevent Cave winning by 3 wickets.

Cave Finish Evening League with Defeat

North Cave finished their Howdenshire Evening League campaign with a narrow defeat at HICE. Cave won the toss and put HICE in to bat. They got off to a fast start with D. Barker (11) and then W. Parker (62) and Grant Van Es (33) added 88 for the second wicket. Jack Storey (3 for 12) pegged them back with help from Danny Hague (1 for 17). HICE finished on 126 for 5. In reply Rob Page (49) held the Cave innings together as wickets fell at the other end, until Jack Storey (32 not out) and Ashley Page (21) took Cave to within reach of victory. HICE held on though to win by 2 runs thanks to the tight bowling of Van Es (0 for 24) and D. Burnett (0 for 23).

Cave Win Top of Table Clash

North Cave won today’s York Vale League Division 1 top of the table clash away to Hemingbrough by 82 runs. North Cave won the toss and batted first. They got off to a steady start with Glen Crouch (0 for 40) and Matty Clark (1 for 40) bowling tight in the opening overs. Mike Stellings (71) was the mainstay of the Cave innings with a superb innings and he put on 76 for the first wicket with Craig Hewson (24). James Ferguson (43 not out) joined him at the crease and the pair added 44 for the second wicket. Ioan Pearce (13) and Mark Woodall (16) helped Ferguson take Cave to 195 for 4 from their 40 overs. In reply the Hemingbrough innings got off to a poor start with Ioan Pearce (4 for 37) and John Buttle (0 for 21 from 12 overs) reducing them to 39 for 4. Wickets fell at regular intervals with only Liam Hallam (51) offering resistance. Rob Page (4 for 33) took late wickets to bowl Hemingbrough out for 113 and take Cave to victory, which puts them back top of the table.

Cave Ease into the HPH Cup Semi-Final

At the fourth attempt North Cave and Kelfield managed to play their 2nd round HPH Cup tie as a 20 over evening match. Kelfield won the toss and put Cave into bat. Despite losing Craig Hewson for 7 bowled by J. Atkinson, Mike Stellings (55) and Ioan Pearce (29) took Cave to 88 before the second wicket fell. Rob Page (20 not out) joined Stellings to take Cave past 100 and then Charlie Cockin (10 not out) added late runs as Cave finished on 124 for 3. D. Stephenson took 2 for 20 from his 5 overs for Kelfield. In Reply Mike Stellings (2 for 13) and John Buttle (2 for 10) restricted Kelfield in the early overs. M. Rhodes (20) and D. Rodwell (19 not out) were the only batsmen to make runs as the Cave bowlers kept things tight. Rob Page (2 for 6) took late wickets as Kelfield finished on 69 for 8. Cave winning by 55 runs and they now play away to Burn in the Semi-Final.
