Hirst Courtney Match Abandoned

North Cave’s York Vale League match away to Hirst Courtney this afternoon was abandoned after 37 overs. Hirst won the toss and Cave batted first, but their innings was dogged by 7 breaks due to rain showers and an increasingly damp wicket. Cave lost an early wicket before Craig Hewson (43 not out) and Mike Stellings (41) added 61 for the second wicket. Cave then lost 3 wickets for 11 runs with P. Alford taking 2 for 38. Mark Woodall (37 not out) joined Hewson and they took Cave to 139 for 4 with 3 overs left when a halt was called to the proceedings at 6.15pm with rain falling and the chances of completing the match remote.

Cave Stroll to Selby Win

North Cave had an easy victory in tonights Howdenshire Evening League match at home to Selby. Cave won the toss and batted first on a damp pitch. They lost both openers early before Mike Stellings (17) and Charlie Cockin (24) added 33 for the third wicket. James Ferguson hit a quick 19 and Ashley Page (14) as Cave reached 111 for 7 from their 20 overs. Andrew Wilson took 2 for 16 and the other bowlers a wicket each for Selby. In reply Selby lost early wickets as Karl Youngman (2 for 24) and James Windeatt (4 for 19) did the damage. Only Ollie Hairs (18) put up any resistance before Mike Stellings and Ashley Page took the final two wickets, as Selby were bowled out for 44. Cave ran out winners by 67 runs in 13.1 overs.

Cup Tie Washed Out

Todays HPH Cup second round match at home to Kelfield was abandoned at 9.30 this morning with the Church Street ground under water. The match will be re-arranged for a future date to be confirmed.

Cave Crash Out in Semi-Final

North Cave crashed out of the Semi-Final of the Mortimer Cup tonight at home to North Duffield. Duffield batted first and openers Lee Wild (78) and Ed Rosa (23) got them off to a great start putting on 62 for the first wicket. E. Townend (12) then supported Wild taking the score to 110 for 2. Rob Page (4 for 36) restricted the scoring in the final overs as Duffield finished on 128 for 6. In Reply Mike Stellings (18) and Charlie Cockin (11) added 38 before both fell to J. Lacey (2 for 30), but then wickets fell as Lee Wild (6 for 15) completed a great all around display dismissing the rest of the Cave batting line-up. Only Ashley Page (20) offered any resistance as Duffield ran out winners by 39 runs.

The Weather Wins Again

Unfortunately, this afternoon’s York Vale League Division 1 match at home to Wheldrake was abandoned early this morning due to a waterlogged pitch with standing water all over the square and outfield after the heavy rain of the last few days.
