Cave Well Beaten by Hemingbrough

North Cave were well beaten in this afternoon’s York Vale Division 1 match at home to Hemingbrough. Cave won the toss and put Hemingbrough into bat. Hemingbrough got off to a good start with Matthew Milburn (36) and Luke Aldridge (27) making contributions before Matty Clark (60) hit the Cave bowlers to all parts with support from Liam Hallam (24). A late burst from Paul Smales (42 not out) took Hemingbrough to 211 all out with an over left. Rob Page took 5 for 34 from 12 overs to peg back the Hemingbrough middle order, but some poor fielding and catching cost Cave valuable runs. In Reply the Cave innings never got going and Glen Crouch (4 for 38) and Paul Smales (4 for 19) destroyed the upper order. Only Jonathan Tomlinson (30) made double figures as Cave were dismissed for 78. Hemingbrough winning by 133 runs.

Ferguson Leads Cave to Cup Win over Bishopthorpe

North Cave won today’s HPH Cup 2nd round match at home to League Leaders Bishopthorpe thanks to a superb century from James Ferguson. Bishopthorpe batted first and G Martham got their innings off to a fast start with a quickfire 28. Karl Youngman (3 for 46) then removed him and Richard Tomlinson (1 for 38) removed R. Kelly with the score on 37. G. Davies (17) and S. Reeves (13) took the score to 71 before Youngman took both wickets. B. Smith (35) and Ian Holmes (72) added 72 for the 5th wicket and Holmes, guided Bishopthorpe to 183 for 9 from their 40 overs. Rob Page (3 for 20) took three late wickets in a tight spell of bowling at the death, including two Mark Woodall stumpings. In reply, the Cave innings got off to a slow start with Tom Eckart (2 for 40) and Ian Holmes (1 for 41) bowling a tight spell with only 25 runs coming from the first 10 overs for the fall of both Cave openers. Then Charlie Cockin (26) and James Ferguson started the fight back adding 62 for the 3rd wicket. Ferguson continued through to the end of the innings scoring a superb, well built, unbeaten century, He finished with 107 not out including 3 sixes and 6 fours and steered Cave to 186 for 6 and a 4 wicket win. He was supported by Rob Page (12) and Richard Tomlinson (9 not out) to see Cave home with four overs left.

Comfortable Win Over Barmby

North Cave had a comfortable 7 wicket win over Barmby on the Marsh, at Cave, in tonight’s Evening League match. Barmby batted first, but lost opener Ben Earl, caught by Craig Hewson, off the first ball of the match from Karl Youngman (3 for 16). Youngman then removed M. Booth and T. Smith before Ashton Nottingham (31) ¬†and Bootie Vollgraaff (17) restored some order to the Barmby innings. However, three run outs and Rob Page (2 for 15) restricted Barmby to 88 for 9 from their 20 overs. In reply Nottingham (2 for 28) took the wickets of Rhys Duerden (2) and Matt Johnson (11) to leave Cave on 16 for 2. Sam Forth (35) and Charlie Cockin (29 not out) added 67 runs for the third wicket ensuring Cave ran out comfortable winners in the 12th over.

Cave Lose at Burn

North Cave’s recent good run came to an end away to Burn this afternoon. North Cave won the toss and batted first. An early burst from A. Prescott (2 for 20) took two early wickets, but John Backhouse (18) and Charlie Cockin (23) took Cave to 46 before a stand of 39 between Jonathan Tomlinson (17) and Richard Tomlinson (51) put Cave back into the game with Nick Gamble (16) providing good support. G. Beavers (3 for 27), R. Miller (2 for 40) and J. Webster (2 for 15) took the wickets for Burn to reduce Cave to 139 all out. In reply Burn lost two early wickets before A. Watson (48) and T. Rich (41) added 63 for the third wicket. M. Webster (14 not out) saw Burn home by 5 wickets in 23 overs. Jonathan Tomlinson (2 for 38) took two wickets in two balls, but it was not enough.

Wilkinson Leads Cave to Win at Selby

North Cave won an exciting Howdenshire Evening League match away at Selby Londesborough tonight by 7 wickets, with just one ball to spare, thanks to an unbeaten century from Matthew Wilkinson. Selby won the toss and batted first. Dan Wilkinson took the early wicket of John Nurden, before Lee Wild and Carl Blundell took the attack to the Cave bowling. Wild fell for 15 to the bowling of Mark Woodall. Blundell carried on and just as he looked to complete a century, he was caught at Long-on for 91 by Dan Wilkinson off the bowling of Rob Page, who finished with 3 for 20. Selby finished on 164 for 6 off their 20 overs. In reply Matthew Wilkinson (100 not out) led the way and he was supported by Rhys Duerden (44) as the pair put on 120 for the first wicket. Despite losing three late wickets, Wilkinson saw Cave home in the final over. His century included 2 sixes and 10 fours.
