Cave Slip Up at Home to Clifton Alliance

North Cave slipped up today at home to Clifton Alliance, handing the Division 1 title to Hemingbrough. North Cave batted first and lost the early wicket of Charlie Cockin before Craig Hewson (30) and John Backhouse (27) added 40 for the 2nd wicket. Rob Page (38) then added 56 with Backhouse before the rest of the Cave innings drifted to 137 for 8. D. Friend bowled a superb spell of 12 overs 3 for 10 to restrict the Cave batsmen and M. Kotagiri took 2 for 56. In reply Clifton made a solid start with D. Eland (11) and M. Jackson (10) before John Buttle took 2 wickets in consecutive balls. A. Lloyd (51) was dropped twice early in his innings before taking Clifton to within touching distance of victory. Craig Hewson took 2 wickets, but S. Cook (14 not out) and D. Friend (17 not out) saw Clifton home to a 4 wicket win.

Weakened Cave Beat Heworth

A weakened North Cave, with a number of players missing, had a good win at home to Heworth in their York Vale Division 1 match this afternoon.  North Cave won the toss and put Heworth in to bat. Buttle dismissed Graves for 3 before a partnership of 124 between M. Huffer (45) and W. Ravenhall (78) put Heworth in Control. Heworth ended up 167 for 3 from their 40 overs. A weakened 10 man Cave kept going and did well to restrict Heworth to this score. In reply Craig Hewson was dropped on 0 before making Heworth pay with 65 and with Charlie Cockin (74), playing a fantastic innings, they put on 144 for the first wicket. Rob Page (21 not out) saw Cave home to an 8 wicket win with 5.3 overs to spare.

Bishopthorpe Match Abandoned

Today’s York Vale League Division 1 match at 3rd placed Bishopthorpe was abandoned at 10.30am due to a waterlogged pitch and the continuation of the heavy rain seen in York over the past few days. This sees Cave consolidate their 2nd place in the table with three matches remaining.

Cave Consolidate Second Place

North Cave consolidated their second place in the 1st Division of the York Vale League with a tight 2 wicket win over Burn at North cave. Burn batted first and got off to a good start with R. Adamson (13), L. Adamson (21) and A. Prescott (26) taking them to 60 for 2 before John Buttle (4 for 28) pegged them back. A late rally by J. Bingle (40) saw Burn to 122 all out. In Reply North Cave lost early wickets and collapsed with only Mark Woodall (21) helping them to 69 for 6, before Rob Page, who gave a match winning Captains innings of 54 not out, and Richard Tomlinson (12) put on 49 for the 7th wicket. A. Prescott (4 for 28) and M. Smith (3 for 35) almost won it for Burn, but Page saw Cave home to a 2 wicket win inside 30 overs.
