Cave win Entertaining Match with Clifton Alliance

On a hot afternoon, North Cave won an entertaining match with Clifton Alliance by 4 wickets. Clifton Alliance won the toss and batted first. J. Bladen (28) got their innings moving before W. Roe (42) and A. Barton (54 not out) saw Clifton to 196 for 6. Cave used 7 bowlers with Charlie Cockin (2 for 57) and James Ferguson (1 for 31) the pick. In reply Craig Hewson (23) and John Backhouse (30) got Cave off to a good start and then James Ferguson (63), ably supported by Jonathan Tomlinson (21) and Tom Baxter (10), put Cave in a commanding position. J. Bladen (4 for 39) gave Cave a nervy end before Rob Page (25 not out) and Richard Tomlinson (9 not out) saw them home.

Evening Win at Newport

North Cave won this evening’s game at Newport by 5 wickets. Cave won the toss and put Newport into bat. Cave started well taking three early wickets during a good opening spell from Charlie Cockin (4 for 32). Carl Wilson (32) and D. Smith (24) counter attacked for Newport, but once they were dismissed wickets fell regularly and they finished 130 for 9 from their 20 overs. Dan Phillips (3 for 19) bowling a tidy spell at the end. In reply Cave lost Woodall early for 4, but Nick Gamble (24 not out) anchored the innings, allowing the other batsmen to play their shots. Partnerships with Simon Cooke (13), Michael Woodford (22) and Charlie Cockin (10) laid the foundations, before Rob Page hit a quickfire 38 to see Cave to victory.

Cave Stroll to Comfortable Cup Win

North Cave had a comfortable 7 wicket victory at home to Askham Bryan in the HPH Cup 2nd Round. Only Pete Wood scored double figures for Askham Bryan with 21, although he was dropped on 2, as they were blown away for 38. John Buttle did the damage taking 7 for 17 with Andrew Ferguson (2 for 13) and Richard Tomlinson (1 for 8) providing support. Askham Bryan losing their last five wickets without a run being scored. In reply Cave, despite losing three wickets, reached the target in 12.4 overs. Charlie Cockin (14 not out) and Jonathan Tomlinson (19 not out) seeing them home.

Selby Win Tight Evening Game

Selby came out on top in tonight’s evening League and Cup double header by 5 wickets. Cave won the toss and batted first. Craig Hewson (39) and John Backhouse (16) added 49 for the first wicket before James Ferguson hit 33. The loss of 4 quick wickets limited Cave to 123 for 5 with Steve Sherwood (2 for 18) and Steve Clark (2 for 19) for Selby. In reply Andrew Ferguson (2 for 42) and Karl Youngman (2 for 33) had Selby 45 for 4, but Neil Wilson added 25 not out, with support from Steve Clark (22) and Steve Sherwood (20 not out) to take Selby to victory with 2 overs to spare.

Cave Cruise to Win at Heworth

Cave cruise to an 8 wicket victory away at Heworth today. North Cave won the toss and bowled first. An excellent opening spell from John Buttle (2 for 15 from 12 overs) and Richard Tomlinson (3 for 27 from 12 overs) reduced Heworth to 45 from the first 24 overs. Only Greg Sykes (31) stuck at it to help Heworth reach 86 all out in 35 overs. Andrew Ferguson (3 for 25) and Charlie Cockin (2 for 15) finished off the Heworth tail. In reply Cave lost two early wickets to Hockenhall, but a typical belligerent knock of 54 not out by James Ferguson and supported by John Backhouse (14 not out) ensured Cave completed an eight wicket win in only 15 overs.
