Today’s York Vale League Division 1 match away to Burn was abandoned as rain stopped play. In very damp conditions both teams tried to play but in the end the weather won. South Win the Battle of the Caves

Posted by Craig on May 25th, 2010

A scrappy fielding performance from North Cave saw South Cave win this match by 4 wickets. North won the toss and batted first. Rob Page got the innings off to a good start with 20 before a partnership of 110 between James Ferguson (87) and Richard Tomlinson (26) saw them to 144 for 4. In reply South lost an early wicket before A. Iyer (23) and some fine hitting from S. Bangor (56) got them ahead of the run rate aided by some dropped catches. Charlie Cockin 3 for 21 and Dan Phillips 2 for 28 pegged South back, but T. Hanson (24), A. Griffith (17) and 14 not out from P. Burgess saw them to victory with 5 balls to spare.

Cave in Comfortable HPH Cup 1st Round Win

Posted by Craig on May 22nd, 2010

North Cave had a comfortable 7 wicket win at home to Heworth in the 1st round of the HPH Cup. Heworth won the toss and batted first on a scorching hot day, but never recovered from the loss of early wickets with John Buttle 4 for 21 the main destroyer. A brief recovery from Ratcliffe (24) and Hutter (18) who put on 38 for the 3rd wicket gave Heworth hope, but Rob Page 3 for 21 finished off the innings. Only Yates (13), Baker (11) and Middleton (21) scored valuable late runs to allow them to reach 106 all out. In reply Cave lost two early wickets, but Matthew Share (48) and James Ferguson (52 not out) saw them home with 20 overs to spare.

Cave Progress to Cup 1st Round

Posted by Craig on May 18th, 2010

North Cave had a convincing 7 wicket win in the Mortimer Cup Preliminary Round at home to Eastrington this evening. Eastrington won the toss and batted first. Despite losing the early wicket of P. Briggs, caught by Richard Tomlinson off the bowling of Karl Youngman, Eastrington got off to a quick start with Shane Chatham (17), Gary Laverack (44) and Mark Holmes (24) pushing the score along. However, tight bowling from Tom Baxter (0 for 33) and an excellent spell of 3 for 25 from Dan Phillips restricted them to 135 for 6 from their 20 overs. In reply Mark Woodall hit a six off his first ball, which set the tone and Cave rattled up 44 from the first 5 overs, before Woodall was run out for 18. Rob Page (35) and James Ferguson with an explosive innings of 67, including 7 sixes, pushed the score to 119 before both were out leaving Richard Tomlinson and Charlie Cockin to hit the winning runs with 5 overs to spare. Cave will be home to Selby in the 1st Round.
