Evening League Finishes on a Damp Note

Posted by Craig on July 29th, 2009

Last night’s final Howden Evening League fixture of the season away at Selby was abandoned due to heavy rain. Both teams made a valiant attempt to play the match in ever increasing drizzle before finally admitting defeat. Selby won the toss and batted first. Despite losing both openers, M. Hoyle (39) and G. Roberts (16) got the innings moving before C. Dye (50 not out) and J. Romaniw (26 not out) got Selby to 148 for 4 at the end of their 20 overs. For Cave John Buttle took 2 for 39 from his 6 overs and Karl Youngman 1 for 35 from 6. Cave fielded well with only 10 men and Charlie Cockin took 3 catches. In reply Cave made it to 44 for 1 from 7 overs with Will Ferguson hitting some classy bounderies in his 25 not out before the teams agreed to call an end to the precedings. Cave have finished the season in second place in the East Division behind Welton and Brough, who now go forward to play Hemingbrough in the Play-Off Final at Hemingbrough next Tuesday evening.
