Semi-Final Defeat at Hemingbrough

Hemingbrough came out comfortable winners in tonight’s Mortimer Cup Semi-Final by 89 runs. Hemingbrough batted first on a good track and got off to a fast start with P. Smales (11) and Matt Clark (20). They were pegged back with Craig Hewson taking 4 for 36 from 6 overs, but Liam McKendry (35 not out) and Tom Collins (56) took the game away from Cave with a stand of 89. In Reply Rob Page started well hitting a quick-fire 32 before being caught and then after that the Hemingbrough bowlers got on top and the Cave batsmen struggled to gain any momentum. Only Richard Tomlinson (13), John Backhouse (10 not out) and Will Ferguson (14) making double figures. For Hemingbrough Josh Jackson took 3 for 34.

Twenty20 Victory at Home to Howden

North Cave won their Drax Twenty20 match at home to Howden today by 86 runs. Cave won the toss and batted first. Despite the early loss of Rob Page, Cave rattled up an impressive 205 for 2 in their 20 overs. Mark Woodall opening the batting today, notched his maiden half century for the club and James Ferguson continued his fine form with an unbeaten 130. It was another hard hitting innings including 8 sixes and 14 fours. In reply Howden got off to a great start with openers M. Smith (30) and A. Smith (27) posting 54 for the first wicket, but from then on wickets fell regularly and they finished 119 all out. Despite bowling 33 wides, the Cave bowlers rallied and Karl Youngman reigned in the Howden batting with 4 for 13.

Ferguson Routs Askham Bryan

Today’s game was all about James Ferguson, who put in a man of the match performance. Askham Bryan won the toss and put North Cave into bat. On a difficult wicket Cave lost both openers early before Ferguson (80) and Rob Page (24) put on 50 for the 3rd wicket. He then added 40 with Richard Tomlinson (31) before being caught on the boundary. Tomlinson then added 60 with Chris Carr (41) for the 6th wicket. In the end Cave finished on 231 all out. For Askham Bryan P. Wood took 4 for 47 and C. Copeland 3 for 66. In Reply Ferguson destroyed the Askham Bryan batting line up with 3 wickets in his first over and four in his fourth. he finished with figures of 8 for 12 from 4.2 overs. Charlie Cockin took the other wicket. Only C. Copeland and P. Wood managed to score for Askham with 7 ducks. Cave won the match by 201 runs.

Cave Well beaten at Welton

Cave were well beaten away to Welton & Brough this evening. Welton batted first and got off to a flying start with Ben Watkin scoring a rapid 37. Despite John Eyre falling for 14, B. Price (42) and Tony Gray (25) continued the momentum. Cave bowlers plugged away with Chris Short (2 for 45) and Richard Tomlinson (3 for 30) taking wickets. Welton finished their 20 overs on 162 for 7. In reply Cave were always behind the run rate and lost wickets at regular intervals. Rob Page was the mainstay of the innings with 39 and a quickfire 30 from Charlie Cockin late on, got Cave to 129 for 6. For Welton P. Thorpe (1 for 29), R. Davis (2 for 25) and B. Watkins (1 for 17) restricted the scoring and they ran out winners by 33 runs.

Comfortable Cup Win at Malton

In a match reduced to 30 overs per side, with rain around, on a damp pitch, North Cave won the toss and bowled first. The Malton batsmen, with the exception of A. Blacklee, struggled to come to terms with the bowling of John Buttle (3 for 11 from 8 overs) and Richard Tomlinson (1 for 33 from 8 overs). Blacklee made an excellent 54 in tough conditions and was the mainstay of the Malton total of 99 all out. Charlie Cockin (1 for 25 from 7 overs), Andrew Ferguson (2 for 24) and Jonathan Tomlinson (2 for 2) cleaned up the tail. In reply Cave made short work of reaching the total in 18 overs for the loss of 3 wickets. Openers Craig Hewson (43) and Richard Moore (34) got the innings off to a flying start and then Michael Woodford (7 not out) and Jonathan Tomlinson (13 not out) saw Cave home.
