Cave win at Westow

Posted by Craig on May 30th, 2009

North Cave won the toss and elected to bowl first on a decent wicket with a short boundary. Westow got off to a good start with M. Earle (38) and A. Welford (23) putting on 43 for the first wicket. B. Holtby then batted through the innings for 42 not out with D. Coverdale (26) offering assistance. The run rate was pegged back by tight bowling from Richard Tomlinson (1 for 53 off 15 overs) and John Buttle (1 for 45 off 15 overs). Three late wickets from Craig Hewson (3 for 29) restricted Westow to 154 for 5. In reply openers Rob Page (who batted through for 50 not out) and Richard Moore (31) put on 59 before an explosive innings from James Ferguson (69 not out), including 6 sixes and 8 fours, saw Cave to a 9 wicket win in 18 overs.

Battle of the Cave’s

Posted by Craig on May 27th, 2009

North Cave came out on top of this entertaining match at neighbours South Cave. South won the toss and decided to bat. A quickfire opening stand between P. Greene (33) and A. Iger (43) saw them off to a flying start against some lacklustre fielding from North Cave. B. Scorah (17) and T. Hanson (12 not out) added late runs to see South Cave to 145 for 4 from their 20 overs, helped by 27 extras. Craig Hewson 2 for 29 and Charlie Cockin 1 for 14 from 3 overs helped restrict the total. In reply North got off to a poor start losing opener Rob Page and the in-form James Ferguson with only ten on the board. T. Scotter (3 for 28) then removed Richard Moore (12) and Charlie Cockin, leaving North 55 for 4 after 9 overs. However, a captain’s innings of 82 not out from Tom Baxter and 19 not out from Hewson saw them to victory by 5 wickets with 11 balls to spare.

Cave Through in Cup 1st Round

Posted by Craig on May 23rd, 2009

North Cave had a comfortable win in this first round match. The Stillingfleet innings got off to a slow start due to some tight bowling from John Buttle (2 for 18 from 10 overs) and Tom Baxter (0 for 9 in 6). Andrew Ferguson (2 for 14) continued the good work before Charlie Cockin (2 for 21) and Craig Hewson (3 for 8) finished off the Stillingfleet innings. Only Warner (21) and Muirhead (16) offered any resistance, batting for a long period. In reply Craig Hewson (39 not out) and James Ferguson (47 not out) saw Cave to victory. Although the owner of the car with a hole in the windscreen from one of Ferguson’s 6’s may not be quite so happy.
