Cave win East Division Title

North Cave retained their Howdenshire Evening League East Division title with an 8 wicket win at home to Newport. Newport batted first, but had a disastrous start losing both openers for ducks in the first over. Only D. Smith (26) and S. Clarke (33) made any contribution as Newport finished their 20 overs on 91 for 7. For Cave Mike Stellings took 4 for 12 from 6 overs. In reply Cave cruised to victory with 93 for 2 in 13 overs. Rob Page (22) and Richard Moore (13) got the innings off to a good start. Then Tom Baxter (26 not out) and Ashley Page (28 not out) took Cave to their target. Cave now play next Tuesday in the Evening League Play-off at Heminbrough with a 6.15 start.

Cave Beat 2nd Placed Stockton & Hopgrove

Stockton & Hopgrove won the toss and put North Cave into bat. A tight early spell from D. Fairclough (3 for 22) and I. Smith (2 for 13) put Cave under early pressure. R. Grimes 5 for 34 took wickets at regular intervals to restrict the total to 126 all out. In reply again the Stockton and Hopgrove batting was put under pressure with early wickets and only D. Fairclough 34 made any serious contribution. For Cave, Man of the Match John Buttle took 7 for 33 and was backed up by some good fielding and catching. Cave ran out winners by 41 runs to consolidate their position at the top of Division 3.

North Cave win Local Derby

North Cave won the battle of the Caves this evening by 25 runs. North Cave won the toss and batted first. Rob Page again was the mainstay of the innings with 58 as they made 107 all out. B. Cray 3 for 25 and A. Iyer 3 for 7 kept the North Cave batsmen at bay. In reply tight bowling from A. Page (2 for 17), Jonathan Tomlinson (0 for 17), Tom Baxter (4 for 21) and Richard Tomlinson (0 for 17) limited South Cave to 82 for 7. Only A. Iyer (28 not out) and T. Wright (21) made double figures. This keeps North Cave 4 points ahead at the top of the East Division with one game remaining.

Rain Intervenes Once More

The weather interrupted proceedings once again with the match against Sheriff Hutton abandoned for rain. Sheriff Hutton won the toss and decided to bowl first. Cave lost wickets at regular intervals on a damp track and were bowled out for 123. Graham Mathers with 26 was top scorer. Fisher took 4 for 25 and Batley 3 for 29 for Sheriff Hutton. During the tea interval the rains came and the pitch became waterlogged. With no chance of any more play the game was abandoned.

North Cave conceded this evening’s match away to HICE due to the unavailability of players.
