Winning Run Continues

Posted by Craig on May 31st, 2008

Melbourne won the toss and chose to bat first on a good track. Their innings never got going and they lost wickets at regular intervals. Only 36 from P. Coe enabled them to reach 108 all out. For Cave John Buttle 3 for 42, Tom Baxter 3 for 34 and Jonathan Tomlinson 4 for 21 restricted Melbourne. In reply Cave lost early wickets, but James Ferguson hit 43 with support from Charlie Cockin (19), Richard Moore (12 not out) and Richard Tomlinson (16 not out) and this meant they reached the total with only 5 wickets down.

Tuesday Game Abandoned

Posted by Craig on May 28th, 2008

Tuesday evening’s game at home to Hull Ionians Coal Exporters was abandoned at 5pm due to the persistant rain and a very damp outfield. So one point each. Our next game is away to South Cave next Tuesday.

Our new wicket covers are now in use, as of last Friday. These should be a great addition to the club and will save us losing games during the season. They should also help with improving the playing surface during inclement weather. The club would like to offer thanks to SLJ Fabrications who manufactured these. A Job well done!DSCN2918

Cup Defeat at Hirst

Posted by Craig on May 24th, 2008

Hirst won a very tight game by 1 run with only 1 over left. Hirst batted first and scored 147 for 7 in 40 overs with L. Stones top scoring with 37 not out. He was well supported by J. Drury (27) and P. Barnes (28). For Cave John Buttle bowled 10 overs taking 4 for 16. In reply Cave lost wickets at regular intervals with only Craig Hewson holding up an end scoring 74. The only other batsman in double figures was Jonathan Tomlinson with 32 and the pair put on 50 for the 6th wicket. The main damage was inflicted by P. Barnes 4 for 26 and a late spell from J. Stevenson 3 for 7. In the end Cave came up 1 run short when last man Karl Youngman was caught out. It was a good effort with a number of players missing due to Hull City’s trip to Wembley.

Posted by Craig on May 17th, 2008

North Cave won a tight game by 21 runs away at Thixendale. Cave won the toss and batted first and managed 231 for 8 from their 40 overs. The Mainstay of the innings was 94 from Craig Hewson and a quickfire 45 not out from Richard Tomlinson. He was ably supported by 27 from Andrew Ferguson. In reply Thixendale got themselves into position to win the game with a magnificent 70 from J. Dakin and 42 from opener Milburn.
