Cave Lose T20 Semi-Final to Hensall

North Cave were beaten by Hensall in today’s Drax Twenty20 Cup Semi-Final by 4 wickets. Cave won the toss and batted first. They managed 118 for 6 from their 20 overs thanks to a 76 run patnership between Rob Page (52) and Chris Carr (36). Hensall bowled tightly with T. Wright (2 for 11), Chris Ramsker (1 for 15) the pick. In reply Hensall looked to be coasting to victory after A. Barker (56) and J. Haller (27) put on 93 for the second wicket. The loss of five wickets for 14 runs, due to the bowling of Charlie Cockin (3 for 24) and Richard Tomlinson (2 for 18), meant it took them to seven balls from the end before hitting the winning runs.

Cave Finish on a High

North Cave finished their York Vale Division 2 campaign with victory over Heworth. Heworth won the toss and decided to bat. Cave opening bowlers John Buttle (3 for 24) and Craig Hewson (2 for 11) took wickets at regular intervals and restricted the scoring of the batsmen. Only L. Hancy (17), M. Huffer (14) and Boothroyd (15) reached double figures as Heworth struggled to 88 all out. Charlie Cockin (1 for 3) and Jonathan Tomlinson (2 for 5) finished the innings of Heworth backed up by some good catches from the Cave fielders. In reply it took Cave only 19.5 overs to reach the required 89 for 2. Mark Woodall (30) got the innings off to a positive start and then John Backhouse (18 not out) batted through with Chris Carr (25) and Will Ferguson (14 not out) completing the scoring for an 8 wicket win. Cave finished second behind Copmanthorpe, but secured promotion to Division 1 for next season.

Cave Continue Push for Promotion

North Cave continued their push for promotion from Division 2 of the York Vale League with a 132 run victory at home to Askham Bryan. North Cave won the toss and batted first. They lost opener John Backhouse (5) early, but then Craig Hewson (51) and Rob Page (96) steered Cave to 147 before the next wicket fell. Page agonisingly falling 4 runs short of a century when he was caught on the boundary by I. Hall. A late cameo of 40 not out from Chris Carr took Cave to 219 for 5 from their 40 overs. M. Grewer (4 for 84) and P. Wood (1 for 44) were the pick of the Askham Bryan bowlers. In reply John Buttle (1 for 9) and Karl Youngman (2 for 27) bowled tight opening spells to stifle the Askham innings. Only M. Grewer (21) and P. wood (28), who put on 46 for the 4th wicket, offered resistance before Charlie Cockin (3 for 16) and Craig Hewson (3 for 10) ripped through the lower middle order backed up by some excellent catching. Askham were finally dismissed for 87 and so Cave won by 132 runs and claimed maximum points.

Comfortable Home Win Over Ben Johnson

North Cave won this Division 2 promotion battle against Ben Johnson by 87 runs. Cave won the toss and batted first. They got off to a poor start with Craig Hewson dismissed for a duck, but John Backhouse batted 38 overs and anchored the innings for 44. He put on 59 with Richard Tomlinson (36) and 54 with Rob Page (49). Charlie Cockin (18) and Jonathan Tomlinson (16 not out) added late runs as Cave finished on 178 for 5 for full batting points. S. Thornton bowled 15 overs taking 2 for 52 for Ben Johnson. In reply D. Cameron (21) and M. Reynolds (21) got Ben Johnson to 60 for 3, but then wickets fell as they slumped to 91 all out. John Buttle 4 for 31 and Charlie Cockin 4 for 20 took the wickets for Cave and Richard Tomlinson held three catches as Cave took the full 30 points from the game.

Cave Continue Push for Promotion

North Cave continued their push for promotion from Division 2 with victory at Kelfield. Cave won the toss and put Kelfield into bat. Kelfield got off to a solid start moving to 55 for 4 and then M. Walker (54) hit some lusty blows and added 47 with Swain before both were dismissed and then the Cave bowlers ripped through the lower order and Kelfield finished on 114 all out. John Buttle took 6 for 45 from 12 overs and he was supported by Richard Tomlinson 1 for 56 and Karl Youngman 2 for 8. In reply Cave slumped to 23 for 3 before Will Ferguson with a superb 68 not out, including 3 sixes and 10 fours and John Backhouse, who batted through the innings for 20 not out, saw Cave to a 7 wicket victory in 22 overs.
