Cave Finish Season Unbeaten

Posted by Craig on September 5th, 2015

Champions North Cave won a tight match with a tense finish at home to second placed Bishopthorpe in today’s York Vale Division 1 match to keep their unbeaten season intact. Bishopthorpe batted first on a difficult drying wicket. Scott Clapham (28) became the highest run scorer in a season for Bishopthorpe when he reached 3 runs and then he took the attack to the Cave bowlers. M. Stellings (5 for 25) and A. J. Clarke (1 for 32) made life difficult for the Bishopthorpe batsmen, but Clapham and Ben Smith (18) added 34 for the third wicket before Stellings and James Windeatt (3 for 35) reduced them to 68 for 6. A. Seager (26) pushed the score to 88, but then Bishopthorpe collapsed to 92 all out. In reply Ian Holmes (3 for 26) and M. Riley (3 for 16) had Cave struggling on 24 for 5 and when Mike Stellings (18) was given out LBW to Riley with the score on 40, Cave were in trouble. A. J. Clarke (14) and Charlie Parkinson (13) together with Captain James Windeatt (31 not out) inched Cave closer to their target. When John Buttle was run out, the ninth wicket fell with Cave still requiring 14 runs for victory, but then Windeatt hit a six and two fours from a S. Reeves overs to take Cave to victory by one wicket with 13 balls to spare.

Posted by Craig on August 29th, 2015

North Cave beat North Duffield at home in today’s York Vale League Division 1 match to retain their league title and win the League for the third time in four years. North Cave won the toss and put nine-man North Duffield in to bat. The Duffield Batsmen struggled to score in the early overs as A. J. Clarke (0 for 14 from 10 overs) and Mike Stellings (2 for 18 from 12 overs) bowled tight spells. Trevor Britain (15) batted 27 overs for his 15. The Duffield innings was built on J. Knibb’s 42 runs. John Buttle (2 for 9 from 10 overs) carried on the good work for Cave and then Karl Youngman (4 for 27) took late wickets to restrict Duffield to 70 all out from their full 40 overs. In reply Cave took just 13.1 overs to reach their target with Charlie Cockin (36 not out) and Damian Sharp (31 not out) seeing them to a 10 wicket win. Cave Beat Burn to Increase the Lead at the Top

Posted by Craig on August 22nd, 2015

North Cave had a good win away to Burn in today’s York Vale League Division 1 Match. North Cave won the toss and put Burn in to bat. Oliver Brett (1 for 37) and A. J. Clarke (2 for 40) bowled a tight opening spell and reduced Burn to 45 for 3. B Steward (10) dug in early and then Ed Clarke (52) and M. Webster (24) took the attack to the bowlers and added 63 for the 4th wicket. When they were dismissed John Buttle (4 for 15) and Mike Stellings (2 for 25) ripped through the lower order taking the last six wickets for only 7 runs. Simon Cooke took four catches behind the stumps and young Elliott Norris took a great catch to dismiss J. Shaw. Burn finished 120 all out. In reply Cave lost Charlie Cockin without a score on the board in the first over to M. Smith. Then Craig Hewson (38) and Mike Stellings (52 not out) slowly built the innings and then as the weather started to close in they accelerated the run rate. A quick fire 18 from Simon Cooke saw Cave home to an eight wicket win in the 23rd over as the rain began. Ovington beat Bishopthorpe by 3 wickets so Cave have now increased their lead at the top of the table.

Cave Struggle to Ovington Victory

Posted by Craig on August 15th, 2015

North Cave struggled to victory over Ovington in today’s York Vale League Division 1 match. Ovington batted first and got off to a poor start losing Craig Nichol in the third over. A. J. Clarke (3 for 28) bowled a great opening spell of 12 overs, removing three of the top four batsmen. P. Kelly (29) and J. Whale (34) rebuilt and added 29 before Kelly was run out. Jonathan Tomlinson (3 for 38) and John Buttle (1 for 38) kept things tight and reduced Ovington to 114 for 8, but then C. Buckley (12 not out) and B. Busby (20 not out) put on 30 to push their total to 144 for 8 after 40 overs. In reply Charlie Cockin (15) hit 10 off the first over, but was then caught by J. Whale off Barry Steele. Craig Hewson (19) took 10 overs to get off the mark, but he and Will Ferguson (52 not out) steadily built a platform adding 38 for the second wicket. Ovington mixed the bowlers in preparation for tomorrow’s Cup Final and it worked as Cave slipped to 73 for 4. A quick-fire 40 in 14 balls from Simon Cooke pushed Cave to 121 for 5, before young C. Buckley completed a fine all around match taking 4 for 50, before Will Ferguson saw Cave to a seven wicket win in the 29th over.

Cave Battle to Win at Fulfordgate

Posted by Craig on August 8th, 2015

North Cave won a tight competitive match by four wickets in today’s York Vale League Division 1 match. Fulfordgate won the toss and batted first. They got off to a poor start as A. J. Clarke (2 for 13) and Mike Stellings (2 for 49) reduced them to 6 for 3. J. Le Huray (28) and Liam Hancy (54) led the recovery and added 39 for the 4th wicket before Stellings removed Le Huray and J. Buttle (2 for 31) bowled Mike Nelson (0). T. Craddock (12) helped Hancy take Fulfordgate to 85. James Windeatt (2 for 42) had Hancy caught for a fighting fifty and S. Nelson as Fulfordgate reached 120 for 9. Then a counter attacking final stand of 40 by J. Nelson (16 not out) and D. Kitchen (24) frustrated Cave until Kitchen became Damian Sharp’s 4th slip catch of the innings off Karl Youngman (1 for 13). Fulfordgate were 160 all out. The Cave reply started badly with C. Hewson (0) bowled by D. Baldock (4 for 30) in the first over. Charlie Cockin (41) and Mike Stellings (9) built steadily and added 57. D. Baldock took four wickets and M. Took (1 for 57) one, as Cave were wobbling on 96 for 5, but then A. J. Clarke (51 not out) and Captain James Windeatt (18) took Cave to the brink of victory with a partnership of 59. Windeatt was caught behind, but Clarke saw Cave to their target.
